The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is the first book in the Narnia Chronicles written by C.S. Lewis in 1950. It is also the first book in the Chronicles adapted for a motion picture by Walt Disney.
Although second in reading order after The Magician’s Nephew, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is quite obviously the first book written, judging from how the storyline flowed, and the introduction of the characters, as well as the excitement of the war between Aslan’s armies and the White Witch’s armies.
I was attracted to read the book after seeing a trailer on TV of Tilda Swinton as the White Witch on a chariot pulled by two angry-looking polar bears on a grassy plain followed by hideous-looking beings clutching weapons.
The movie adaption followed the book quite closely, and I thought it kind of interfered with my own imagination of how the scenes would have played out, as images from the movie kept popping into my head.
There were two cover versions by HarperCollinsPublishers, and I picked the cover with Tilda Swinton; Aslan still appears on the spine of the book.
