As far as books explaining about the Chinese Zodiac go, Marites Allen's Chinese Astrology published by Simon & Schuster looks good on a bookshelf, is illustrated in beautiful non-threatening way and makes for an easy 101 course into Chinese Zodiac.
There is the usual description of each zodiac and the characteristics of people born in different months of each zodiac and even SWOT. This is certainly not as complicated as the astrology talks that the Taiwanese astrologers do, which most of the time assume that viewers already have the basic knowledge of astrology and it can end up like a walk in the mist-filled garden.
