When I watched Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, I thought it was an interesting concept and wondered about the inspiration behind the screenplay. Reading the book itself (finally), I realised that it was vintage photographs of children that were the drivers for the universe of peculiar children and the loops they live in. The children in the photographs were certainly normal, and it was likely the technology back then that allows us now to be able to conjure odd stories for these children.
While the film itself was rather dark, the book is actually a children's book which I found riveting enough to want to keep continuing reading it till the end. I do wonder about the concept by which Riggs envisioned for children to have to live in loops to be safe and never physically age. It felt like an alternative universe for mutants (thinking of X-men)...
Looking forward to getting my hands on the next book Hollow City.
