This is a pocket book that is small, light and is part of Quercus Publishing's 50 Ideas You Really Need to Know series. Contents are grouped into Basic Concepts, Institutions of Capitalism, Finance and Financial Markets, Political Economy, Society and Culture, and Capitalism's Future. Each section contains at least 6 articles that provide a very decent 101 introduction to different topics.
For me, reading 50 Capitalism Ideas is an approachable enough attempt to understand capitalism ideas, and makes for a decent background reading to better understand articles in the Finance/Business sections of newspapers. Not all articles are a read-and-one-will-get-it, and some concepts remain iffy for me. But that's more on me to get further exposure and understanding on the topics, rather than Portes not writing in a comprehensible manner.
