And so with the Queen laid to rest, as BBC reported in Queen Elizabeth II funeral: Nation pays final farewell, an era has come to an end. By a strange quirk of circumstance, the young Princess Elizabeth became heir to a shrinking empire that was once so huge that the sun never set.
I wasn't able to watch the funeral, but BBC created a helpful guide which I really appreciated.
It was by the sheer charisma of the Queen who held the commonwealth nations together, but with her passing, I won't be surprised if before long nations which had been considering becoming republics proceed quicker towards it. Perhaps even within the United Kingdom, there could be more and louder questions about taxpayers continuing to fund the royal family.
