Coconut Curry Baked Tempeh [お弁当]

This vegetarian mealbox is named Coconut Curry Baked Tempeh, and came with butterfly pea rice, broccoli, cauliflower, bean sprouts tossed with sesame seeds and deep fried beancurd skin.  There was also half a lime too.

Tempeh is a fermented soybean product that is awesome and can be a little pricey.

Although the mealbox is named Coconut Curry Baked Tempeh, there were just a few small pieces of tempeh, hardly warranting it being called a tempeh mealbox.  There were more deep fried beancurd skin that were soaked in coconut curry that were of too thick a viscosity for my liking.  It appears as if there was too much cream added to thicken the curry and there wasn't the familiar fragrant of coconut curry.  The curry was also spiced too heavily and I had to reluctantly ditch the deep fried beancurd skin after one bite because I wasn't able to taste anything else with the heat.

Tempeh can be a little pricey, but the portion of tempeh here really didn't justify calling it a tempeh mealbox.  I've had a more generous portion of tempeh from nasi padang stalls.

I wasn't sure how the broccoli and cauliflower were cooked, I would be quite surprised if they were roasted as they were greasy.

The beansprouts tossed with sesame seeds were rather unusual, but thankfully the beansprouts were cooked and did not have the awful raw taste.

There was far too much rice, and dying the rice with butterfly pea didn't really add any points to the rice.  The addition of the half a lime was odd too, not sure what purpose it served.

This mealbox was from the same company that offered the Meatless Meatball Marinara and the Thai Street Grilled Chicken.  The consistent thing from the three mealboxes was the layer of grease at the bottom of the boxes.

A unsatisfying meal....
