7.       Discernment: Put an end to unsolved mysteries
Maxwell’s model of discernment was the Nobel Prize winner Marie Curie, whom Maxwell claimed that “her intelligence and discernment allowed her to understand and discover many things that have made a positive impact on our world.”  In Maxwell’s words, discernment helps to: discover the root issues, enhance problem solving, evaluate options for maximum impact and multiply opportunities.

My thoughts
Marie Curie’s life is a fascinating read summarized in two pages.  However, through the story, I was unable to understand how discernment played a part in Marie’s success as a renowned Nobel Prize winner.  Neither was her leadership evidently demonstrated.  Winning the Nobel Prize probably made it easier for Curie to solicit for funds to equip her laboratories.  Even today, the Nobel Prize is an undeniable magnet that draws funds and other people to the winner.  The Daily Take-away story, about how Seiko had accepted the design of digital watch, had more relevance to discernment.  It would be more beneficial had this story been expanded to detail the reason for Seiko accepting the new design.
